Do you find that you miss the old hymns you used to sing in church when you were a child? I do. Sometimes one of the tunes will float through my head and I start to try to sing them, and I have forgotten the words. That makes me sad. Some of those hymns were great reminders of the faithfulness of God, and reiterated the doctrines that we were learning in church. Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy the modern worships songs and the more contemporary music, but there is just something about the old hymns that is special. While I was having devotions today, the hymn, "Break Thou the Bread of Life" entered my head. I started to try to sing it, but couldn't remember the words, just the tune. I really felt like the Lord was trying to talk to me through this hymn, so I went online to try to find the words. I found
cyber hymnal and found the words and the music. The Lord has given me several words lately to help me get through some of our current circumstances and today he gave me the words from Daniel in the Message. It is from Daniel 10:18 and it is spoken by the angel to Daniel. Daniel is seeing the angel and is scared stiff. The angels words were, "Don't be afraid, friend. Peace. Everything is going to be all right. Take courage. Be strong." These are along the same lines as the words the Lord gave me on the first Sunday of the New year. Clearly, it is a truth that the Lord wants me to grasp a hold of. Are you struggling with difficult circumstances or wondering what in the world the Lord is doing with your life? Maybe these words are meant for you as well!
Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me,
As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea;
Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word.
Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall;
And I shall find my peace, my all in all.
Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word the truth that saveth me;
Give me to eat and live with Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou art love.
O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes, and make me see:
Show me the truth concealed within Thy Word,
And in Thy Book revealed I see the Lord.
